fact that it is very pink and has, as one
of its sub-headings, ‘write like a
girl’ might lead to the impression
that it’s mainly directed at women.
But there’s something here for
everyone, including author interviews,
book reviews and a very useful directory
of U.K. and U.S. agents. And anyone who
has ever submitted to an agent will
empathise with the wry sentiments

looking for publication. I am prepared to
look at MS or the first three chapters.
In either instance I ask for a synopsis
of the work on one side of A4 ( double
spaced). In return the writer receives a
report of around 2000 words covering,
genre, style, plot, characterisation,
grammar and syntax etc I regularly read
MSS for the Authors Club annual First
novel Award and am happy to say that of
the works I have recommended for the
short list I have picked three that won
