Listen to Cas Peace discussing 'For the Love of Daisy' in live radio interview

‘For the Love of Daisy’ is a true story, a story of love, determination, courage and inventiveness. It concerns a fun-loving, mischievous and beautiful Dalmatian called Daisy who, when she was 10 years old, was found to be suffering from disc disease. Diagnostic tests revealed two ruptured discs in her neck, which were pressing on her spinal cord and affecting both her balance and movement. She underwent spinal surgery to relieve the problem but a subsequent and unexplained collapse left her a virtual quadriplegic. Follow-up tests – exhaustive, invasive and hugely expensive – failed to provide an answer and Daisy’s owners were advised to consider euthanasia.

December 6th 2005 - Daisy stands unaided

But Daisy was a very special dog, as every professional who had contact with her agreed, and despite the severity of her condition she didn't want to give up on life. Her owners found that they could not give up on her either.

Between the pages of this book lies a truly compelling story, a story every animal lover will be touched by. Interwoven with Daisy’s struggle for recovery are tales from her life and the lives of the people who cared so much about her. One of her owners – the author of the book – tells of her despair over Daisy’s fate and her determination to help Daisy survive and recover. She reveals how she was aided in this quest by members of the veterinary profession; a canine chiropractor and physiotherapist; a Tellington TTouch practitioner; hydrotherapy, laser therapy, and acupuncture.  The book tells how Daisy’s owners learned to cope with a dog weighing 66lbs but couldn’t walk, and how, despite her disabilities, they maintained her quality of life. It reveals the inventiveness they had to foster in order to overcome the many problems they were presented with and pays homage to Daisy’s irrepressible spirit and the depth of her loving heart. It also describes the many other aids that became available to help Daisy eventually regain her feet.

May 5th 2005 - Daisy swims

Enhanced by photographs from Daisy’s life and recovery, ‘For the Love of Daisy’ is a tribute to those who spend their lives in the service of animals and their owners. Uplifting, frustrating, amusing and emotional, it is a heart-warming tale which proves the power of Love. Including a Foreword written by the skilful and enlightened veterinary surgeon who was so intimately involved in Daisy’s care, plus acknowledgments and contacts for the many other professionals and companies who made Daisy’s life possible and pleasurable, this book is a must-have for any animal lover.
