Our aim is to meet our budding authors’ exact requirements and we
can almost always fit our skills to your individual needs. For our

Manuscript Critique Service
For
fiction, non-fiction, short stories, academic and all other prose.
It includes manuscript annotations covering grammar, punctuation,
spelling and style. Writers also receive a report covering issues
such as plot development, characterisations and dialogue (fiction
and short stories), and construction, clarity and conclusion
(non-fiction and academic).
The
report length will vary from one manuscript to another, but it will
be a clear and in-depth appraisal.
Time-scale is usually around one month from receipt of manuscript.
As a guide, prose consisting of up to 10,000 words will cost in the
region of £87.50p, while up to 250,000 words will cost approximately
£525.00p.
For
those who would prefer to pay by stages, we offer instalment options
for weekly, or even monthly, payments. Our only caveat is that the
critique will not be sent out until full payment has been received.

Quick Critique
Only
just starting out as a writer? Not sure if your novel is working?
Want a quick indication as to whether your writing has merit but
afraid to ask your friends? Then why not sign up for Can Write
Will Write’s Quick Critique? Send us the first 10,000 words of
your novel and you will receive a friendly, advice-filled report
full of useful hints and tips. There will be no heavy criticisms and
no raps over the knuckles for bad grammar or spelling. Encouragement
is our aim: we will praise what is good and suggest improvements

Plot Appraisal
Send
us a concise, yet complete, breakdown of your novel’s plot, or the
plan for your non-fiction book. You will receive a full appraisal,
including, where applicable, suggestions as to whether the idea
generally ‘works’ or not, if the level of plot complexity seems
right or not, advice on subplots, characters and location, whether
the twist at the end is far-fetched or too obvious, targeted
readership, research and so on. This does not include a line-edit,
but will offer suggestions as to the strengths and weaknesses of
your idea and structure, thus saving you time on rewrites.

Query Letter Advice Service
Confused by query letters? Hate letter-writing? Unsure how much
information to include? Let a Can Write Will Write editor
advise you. Send us your query letter and we will guide you though
the maze.
Letters should be no more than two pages of single-spaced text and
include all the information your chosen agent or publisher requires.
If you have it, please
also send us the link that shows the relevant
publisher’s submission guidelines.
Submission Package Appraisal
For
a one-off fee, a Can Write Will Write editor will read in full, comment on and
suggest improvements to your Query Letter, Synopsis, and the opening
chapters of your mss to a maximum of 10,000 words. Query Letter to
be no more than two pages of single-spaced text. Synopsis to be no
more than 5 pages of single-spaced text.
Fee does NOT include line-edit of opening chapters but will indicate
if problems exist.
Poetry Appraisal
When
you have poured your very self into a rhyming or free verse style
poem, you are particularly vulnerable to feeling exposed. Before you
bare your soul to the world, why not let us do what we can to help
and encourage you? We will tell you if your metre is functioning
well or needs a little fine tuning; whether your metaphors shine
like a bright star on a cloud-free winter’s night or fall a little
flat like… em, a man made out of custard jumping from a very tall
building.
